
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. Between the steam and the random splashes, most heating elements just give up. They rust, they short out, and then they’re trash. When we built our mirror infrared heaters, we knew we couldn’t just slap a cover on it and hope for the best. We had to actually think about how water behaves. Keeping the guts dry The biggest problem is water getting where it doesn’t belong. If steam leaks into the wiring, you get arcing—which is basically a fancy way of saying the unit burns itself out. To stop that, we used high-grade silicone gaskets and a housing that’s tightly sealed. It’s not just a flimsy splash guard. We made sure the seal is tight enough that even when your bathroom feels like a sauna, the internal terminals stay bone-dry. No more wiping the mirror We’ve all been there—stepping out of the shower and having to wipe a clear streak through a fogged-up mirror with a towel. That happens because warm, wet air hits cold glass. Simple physics. So, we put the infrared emitter right there to keep the glass warm. Since the mirror stays above the dew point, the vapor never turns into those annoying little droplets. You just walk up, and you can actually see yourself. The honest trade-off Here is the catch. We used tempered glass and heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant coatings so the thing doesn’t peel or rust after a couple of years. But that extra protection adds some bulk. Our heater has a larger footprint than the cheap, unsealed versions you’ll find online. It’s heavier, too. Just make sure your wall mounting can handle the extra weight before you hang it up. One last thing: you still need a fan. The heater is great at keeping the mirror clear, but if you don’t vent the room, the air eventually gets so saturated that the heater has to work twice as hard to do its job.
