Dust can’t get in, and a bit of splashing water isn’t going to kill the electronics. It keeps the wiring safe and stops the filaments from burning out way too early.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
These are easy to mount, but you can’t just wing the electrical side. High-wattage IR lamps pull a lot of power. If you just hook a whole row of them up to one circuit without thinking about the load, you’re going to trip your breaker. Definitely double-check your power draw before you start drilling holes. And then there’s the “throw.” The height of the lamp matters. If you mount it too high, the heat loses its punch. Too low, and you’ll bake whatever is sitting directly underneath it. You’ve got to find that sweet spot where the beam angle covers your space without overheating the floor.
