
Why Your Bathroom Heater Doesn’t Just Explode
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, splashing water, and huge temperature swings. Now, imagine a high-wattage infrared lamp screaming hot, and then—bam—a cold drop of water hits it. In a normal piece of glass, that’s a recipe for a disaster. The glass can’t handle that kind of shock and it just snaps. That’s why we don’t use standard glass. We use a special kind of explosion-proof quartz. Here’s the trick: we wrap the tube in a high-strength mesh or a reinforced coating. It’s basically a safety net. If the inner tube ever does give out, the mesh holds everything together. No shards of glass raining down on you while you’re trying to take a shower. It’s about peace of mind. The heat part is actually pretty cool. Instead of trying to warm up all the air in the room (which takes forever), these lamps use short-wave infrared. It hits you directly. It feels like standing in the sun on a crisp October morning. Because the quartz is so clear, the heat goes straight to you, not into the fixture itself. It’s fast. Really fast. But, you have to get the installation right. If the wiring is loose at the terminals, you’ll get arcing, and the lamp will burn out way sooner than it should. Also, give the thing some room to breathe. These lamps put out a lot of energy, and if the casing doesn’t have enough airflow, the thermal cutoff switch will keep tripping. It’s annoying, and it usually just means the fixture is choked. One last thing. These tubes are tough, but they aren’t invincible. If you have hard water, minerals can bake onto the glass over time. This creates “hot spots” that eventually wear down the quartz. It’s not a huge deal, but if you want your heater to actually last, give it a quick clean every now and then. It makes a world of difference.
