
Why we stopped gluing our heaters shut
Most bathroom heaters on the market today are basically disposable. They’re welded or glued together in one solid piece, which sounds sturdy until a single heating element burns out. Then what? You’re stuck. You can’t fix it, so the whole thing becomes an expensive piece of scrap metal. We thought that was crazy. So we did things differently.
The “Plug and Play” approach
Instead of soldering everything into one permanent mess, we built our heaters with modules. Think of it like a lightbulb. When the bulb goes, you don’t throw away the whole lamp; you just swap the bulb. We did the same for infrared heat. We use standardized connectors instead of hard-wiring, so when a tube finally gives out after years of use, you don’t have to rip the whole unit off the wall. You just pop the old module out and drop a new one in. It takes minutes. No stress, no massive overhaul.
The tricky part
Now, making something modular isn’t without its headaches. More connection points usually mean more things that could potentially break. To fix that, we spent a lot of time on the terminals. We use high-temp materials that can handle the constant expanding and shrinking that happens when a heater kicks on and off. We also had to get the housing exactly right. If the tube shifts even a little bit, the heat doesn’t hit the right spot, and you lose that cozy feeling. It has to be precise.
The bottom line for your wallet
Maintenance shouldn’t feel like a construction project. By treating the heating element as something you can replace—like a filter or a battery—the rest of the heater (the shell, the electronics, the wiring) lasts way longer. It’s the difference between spending $20 on a new tube or $200 on a brand new heater. Especially in a bathroom where steam and lime build-up eat away at the hardware, this is the only way to build something that actually lasts.
