Putting a heater in the shower sounds like a dream until you think about the two things that hate electricity: water and sudden temperature shifts. But the real danger isn’t the box—it’s the heating element itself.
The “Pop” Factor
Imagine this: your heater is glowing hot, and a single, cold drop of water lands right on the glass. With a cheap quartz tube, that’s a recipe for disaster. The glass shocks, it cracks, and it shatters. That’s why we use explosion-proof quartz. It’s built to take those wild temperature swings without flinching. Think of it as your last line of defense. If a tube breaks while you’re standing on a wet floor, you’ve got a serious problem. This glass keeps things safe.
Heat That Actually Hits You
Since we’ve got the housing sealed tight, we use short-wave infrared lamps. Here’s the thing: these don’t waste time heating up the air in the room. They heat you directly. If you’ve got a drafty bathroom with a leaky window, this is the only way to actually stay warm. Just a heads-up on the electrics: these lamps pull a lot of power the second they kick on. If your circuit breaker is a bit old or too small, you’re going to be tripping the power every time you want a warm shower. Double-check your wiring first.
A Few Installation Tips
Even “explosion-proof” glass has its limits. It’s tough, but it can still wear down if it’s vibrating constantly, so make sure it’s mounted securely. And please, do yourself a favor: stick to stainless steel brackets. I’ve seen people use chrome-plated steel, but in a steamy bathroom, that stuff just rusts away. Eventually, the metal gives out, the heater sags, and the whole thing becomes a mess. Stainless steel stays clean and holds tight.
