
If you’ve ever run a nightclub patio, you know the deal. It’s a brutal place for equipment. You’ve got humidity, rain, and those infrared lamps cranking out insane heat, then cooling down, then cranking up again. Most people think the heating element is what gives out first. But honestly? It’s usually the lead-wire junction that kills the machine. Here is the real problem: the spot where the electrical wire enters the quartz tube is a magnet for trouble. Most basic heaters use cheap silicone or low-temp glue to seal that gap. Under constant infrared heat, that stuff just bakes. It cracks. It shrinks. And once that seal opens up, moisture crawls right in. That leads to oxidation, and before you know it, you’ve got a dead short tripping your breakers in the middle of a busy Friday night. Not a great look. We do things a bit differently. We use a glass-to-metal seal and high-temp ceramic potting. It isn’t just about blocking rain, though. It’s about the “push and pull.” The wire and the tube expand at different speeds when they get hot. Cheap seals can’t keep up with that stress, so they just pull away. Our seals stay airtight, even after thousands of heat cycles. Plus, a tight seal stops the “wicking” effect. That’s when water basically hitches a ride along the wire, traveling straight into your electrical housing. Keeping that circuit dry is the only way to prevent those nasty arc-overs. One heads-up, though. Because these seals are heavy-duty, the lead wires are a bit stiffer. Don’t try to bend them at sharp angles during install, or you might crack the potting compound. Just give the wires a generous, lazy loop to take the pressure off. And if you’re packing a lot of heat into one area, just double-check that your junction boxes can handle the heat soak from the lamps.
